Uganda Wildlife Authority
For nearly 25 years, the Uganda Wildlife Auhority (UWA) and the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF) have built one of Africa's longest-standing conservation partnerships. Together, we have strengthened every pillar of Uganda's conservation system, restoring protected landscapes, rebuilding conservation institutions, supporting ranger training through the UWA Wildlife Training Academy, strengthening law enforcement, recovering populations of elephants, lions, hippos, and Rothschild's giraffes, supporting the return of the rhinoceros to Uganda, and investing in community development and sustainable livelihoods.
More than a conservation partnership, UCF and UWA are helping build Uganda's national conservation infrastructure, the landscapes, institutions, skills, technology, and knowledge needed to safeguard the country's natural heritage while creating opportunities for people and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Working alongside UWA, UCF provides long-term investment, technical expertise, and collaborative management to strengthen protected areas, restore degraded ecosystems, and build institutional capacity. Today, this includes supporting UWA's Digital Strategy through the nationwide rollout of the EarthRanger platform, integrating protected area operations into a single enterprise data model owned and managed by UWA. This enables real-time operational intelligence, evidence-based conservation management, General Management Planning, and reporting against Uganda's national priorities and international commitments, including the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Uganda's wildlife and protected landscapes underpin a tourism industry that is already the country's largest foreign exchange earner. UCF works with UWA and the Government of Uganda to help realise the ambition of tripling tourism's contribution to GDP, recognising that healthy ecosystems, thriving wildlife, and well-managed protected areas are the foundation of a globally competitive tourism sector.
Together, UWA and UCF are demonstrating that conservation is more than protecting nature, it is an investment in resilient landscapes, thriving communities, and Uganda's future. Through long-term partnership, innovation, and evidence-based management, we are helping deliver Uganda's commitments while creating a model for conservation-led development across Africa.
